Meet Valentino and Carly Giannoni, the people who pour the Love, Passion and Tradition into their prize-winning business Gelati Vernazza.  Byron Bay Food visited Gelati Vernazza’s Bangalow factory where Valentino’s range of Gelati makes you instantly transform into the proverbial ‘kid in the candy shop’!

Their story starts in the beautiful village of Vernazza, which sits above the cliff tops of the spectacular Cinque Terra region of Italy, where as a boy, Valentino was taught the art of making the perfect Gelati by his father, Guiseppe.

As if that doesn’t sound romantic enough, the Gelati shop was also the setting for Valentino to meet his beloved wife, Carly. The couple and their two children have recently moved to Bangalow, expanding Gelati Vernazza as a predominantly wholesaling business with distributors throughout the Northern New South Wales and South East Queensland.

Valentino and Carly have been busy sourcing seasonal local produce from the Byron Bay area to include in their delicious Gelati recipes.

They use Organic Milk and Organic Raw Sugar in the dairy based Gelati, and recently won the Champion Rosette at the Bangalow Show for the best Homemade Dairy Product!

You may want to know that was for the Coffee with Caramel & Crushed Macadamia Gelati … oh yum!  Their notoriety has been soaring since winning a Gold Medal at the Royal Melbourne Show in Fine Food Products for their ‘White Passion’ Gelati, dreamy combination of Yoghurt, fresh passionfruit and white chocolate chunks in organic milk and cream!

They were also awarded a Silver Medal for ‘Lovers in Havana’ Gelati , the  innovative combination of Havana Rum infused with Cuban tobacco and Cinnamon!

When you talk with Valentino about combining such intriguing flavours, you realise that you are talking to a real Gelati Artisan! His passion for his work is so evident!
